A 5-Minute Self-Audit Before You Blame Instagram or the Algorithm

1. Can Anyone Find Your Ass on Google?

What you do:  Open an incognito tab. Search: dispensary near me  or dispensary in [your city].

If you don’t show up:   Congrats. You’re invisible. Your rent still isn’t.

DIY fix:   Claim your Google Business Profile and stop letting competitors eat your lunch.  If this is broken, everything else probably is too.

2. Does Your Homepage Tell People WTF You Are?

If your headline says:

  • “Welcome” (or as in the example image above, Canna Come In)
  • “Premium Experience”
  • “Cannabis Done Right”

…Google doesn’t care. Customers don’t either.  What it should say:

  • What you are
  • Where you are
  • Immediately

Example: YOUR current H1 >>   “We’re in the Green, Because We Sell Amazing Weed.”

DIY fix:  The Example should not be a headline for  Google to pick up and index. There is no context for a placeholder or anchor.  Google doesn’t care how f’ing fantastic your weed is… Rewrite the damn headline to something like:  H1>>  “Recreational Cannabis Dispensary in Syracuse, NY”  (Then you can add your tag line as an H2 or H3 )  H2/3>> “We’re in the Green, Because We Sell Amazing Weed.”

Hey!:  If your site doesn’t say “dispensary,” (or what your part in the cannabis industry is…packaging, production plant, or f’ing bong factory, etc.)

Google won’t rank you like a dispensary (or whatever you are).

3. Can a Stoned Customer Figure Out What to Do?

Open your site on your phone in incognito.  Don’t scroll.  Stop right there in your Hero section, the first thing they see is:  (If you can’t instantly):

  • See where you are
  • What you are
  • Get directions, phone, email, SOME Way to FIND you NOW…

You’re bleeding money every hour.

DIY fix:  Add a big, ugly, obvious button:  VIEW  MENU CALL NOW

Subtext:  Pretty sites don’t pay bills. Clear ones do.

4. Does Your Site Look Abandoned?

If your site still has:

  • Last year in the footer (or God forbid, even further back!)
  • A promo that ended months ago
  • Blog posts from 2022

It looks dead.
Dead sites don’t rank.   Dead sites don’t convert.

DIY fix:
Update or delete one outdated thing today.   Rewrite and refresh old posts if they are still relevant for today.

Gut punch:
If you don’t take your business seriously online, Google won’t either.

Is THIS The End of You?

If you found problems here, relax.
These are the EASY ones to fix.

The real SEO problems don’t show themselves in 5 minutes.
They quietly drain traffic, rankings, and revenue until someone who knows cannabis SEO rips the hood open.
